About this bond

Kerala Infrastructure Dec ’29 is a corporate bond issued by a company to raise debt from investors, currently offering a yield to maturity (YTM) of 8.55%. It pays a coupon of 9.42% and matures on 30 Dec 2029, a remaining tenure of about 3.2 yr. It is rated AA, a high credit-safety grade. BondScanner lists this bond with a minimum investment of ₹10.5L.

Its 8.55% yield is solid for its risk band, toward the lower end at 275th of 319 Corporate bonds. That trails the Corporate median of 10.50% by 1.95 points, so the trade-off is lower yield for whatever else this issuer offers. A comparable SBI fixed deposit yields about 6.55%, so this bond adds roughly 2.00 points for taking on credit risk. Its medium 3.2 yr horizon balances rate lock-in against flexibility. Paired with its very high safety (AA) rating, that leans toward the safety-first end. Compare it against similar bonds on RightBonds before investing.

About Kerala Infrastructure

Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) is a statutory body of the Government of Kerala, established on 11 November 1999 under the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Act 1999 and comprehensively revamped by the 2016 amendment to that Act. It is the state's principal funding arm and nodal agency for infrastructure, scrutinising, approving and funding large physical and social infrastructure projects, including land acquisition. It is fully owned by the Government of Kerala and its board is chaired by the Chief Minister, with the Finance Minister, the Chief Secretary and independent members; a Fund Trustee and Advisory Commission monitors fund utilisation and issues a fidelity certificate every six months. Under Section 7 of the KIIF Act the state makes budgetary allocations to KIIFB equal to a share of motor vehicle tax and the entire petroleum cess collected in the previous year, and all KIIFB borrowings are guaranteed by the Government of Kerala under the Act. Its bonds are additionally backed by an escrowed bond servicing account, a fixed deposit and a debt service reserve account together covering two quarters of obligations, and for the earlier issue a corpus fund of about Rs 3,892 crore. Acuite rates the bonds ACUITE AA (CE) with a Stable outlook. KIIFB had total assets of Rs 30,171.66 crore as on 31 March 2025 and, because it lends at its average cost of borrowing and also funds non-revenue social projects, it runs structural losses, with a net loss of Rs 1,328.37 crore in FY25. This bond is issued under the legal name Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board.

What you keep after tax

Interest on a listed corporate bond is added to your income and taxed at your slab, so the 8.55% headline is a pre-tax number. Here is the same bond seen from each slab, on ₹1,00,000 held for the remaining 3.2 yr.

Your tax slabPost-tax yield₹1,00,000 becomes
No tax (income under the exemption limit) 8.55% ₹1,29,967
5% slab 8.12% ₹1,28,338
20% slab 6.84% ₹1,23,538
30% slab 5.99% ₹1,20,407

At a 9.42% coupon, ₹1,00,000 of face value pays about ₹9,420 of interest a year, under the ₹10,000 Section 193 threshold, so no TDS is withheld.

Slab rates only - surcharge and cess are not included, and the figures assume you hold to maturity. Sold on the exchange after 12 months instead, the gain is taxed as long-term capital gains at 12.5%. Not tax advice.

Bond figure compounds the yield annually; the FD compounds quarterly, as a cumulative bank FD does. Both are pre-tax and assume the bond is held to maturity and the issuer pays in full - the AA credit risk is the reason for the gap.

When you get paid

Interest lands 4 times a year, in Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec, with about 13 payments still to come before 30 Dec 2029, each at the 9.42% coupon rate.

Payment months come from the issuer's schedule. Exact dates within the month, and the amount per payment, depend on the face value of the units you buy - check the term sheet on BondScanner before investing.
